Questions & answers
Why does the British Curriculum seem to have so many names?
Outside the UK, the National Curriculum is often called the British or the United Kingdom (UK) or English or just the National Curriculum. This is shorter than its true title which is The National Curriculum for England and Wales (since it is only taught in those countries).
However, the curriculum is based on British values and is broad and balanced to ensure that students get a good education. It does not just include subjects but is an approach to education that is valued around the world.
Here at the IBSA we teach the National Curriculum and add subjects required by the Ministry of Education to ensure our curriculum is also culturally specific to Egypt.
What are key Stages?
The national Curriculum breaks down the teaching based on age. There are 6 stages:
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) ages 3 to 5
Key Stage 1 ages 5 to 9
Key Stage 2 ages 9 to 11
Key Stage 3 ages 11 to 14
Key Stage 4 ages 14 to 16 (often called IG)
Key Stage 5 ages 16 to 18 (often called IG)
I see ISE and IBSA on the same site, what is the difference
IBSA is one of two schools that is part of the International Schools of Egypt Group (ISE). This group includes the International British School of Alexandria (IBSA) and Molière. IBSA teaches the National Curriculum in English and Molière which is a school that teaches the Programme Officiels Français in French.
Both schools are on the same campus and have similar philosophies regarding education. So, the ISE website will take you to either of the two schools.
How much does it cost to send my child to IBSA?
The fees for the school are based on the year group that your child is in and can be found by contacting the school.
When can I enrol my child and what is the procedure?
Your child will normally enrol in the year prior to September start. For detailed information please click on either the Apply button or the Admission Now on the Home page.
When can I visit the school?
You will appreciate that the school is a busy place and we take children’s safety very seriously, so, we do not allow impromptu visits. To arrange a visit please contact us and the reception staff will be able to organise a convenient date and a time.
